Earl's Story

Jan. 26, 1941—March 26, 2015 Earl L. McRill, 74, of Crossville, passed away peacefully March 26, 2015, at his son’s Solon, OH, home. He is survived by his son, Scott (Michele) McRill and their two children, Kelsey and Tyler; daughter-in-law, Leanne McRill and her three children, Beth, Kevin and Garrett; and two brothers, Carl and Glen McRill. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rollie and Cecil (Medler) McRill; brother, Richard; his wife, Barbara; and son, Greg (Leanne) McRill. Earl was born Jan. 26, 1941, in East St. Louis, IL, and grew up in the southern Illinois town of Fairfield. After marrying Barbara in southern Illinois, they moved to Sandwich and then Somonauk, IL, where they raised two boys and Earl logged 30 years as a UAW laborer for Caterpillar. Earl and Barbara retired to Winter Haven, FL, at the age of 49 where they lived for 15 years, enjoying the sunshine and countless rounds of golf, until Barbara’s death in 2004. After moving to Tennessee from central Florida in 2005, Earl spent his remaining years on the Cumberland Plateau in Crossville, where he played many more rounds of golf with the Lake Tansi Bandits. Earl will be buried alongside his wife and son at a private family service in Illinois. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer society would be gratefully accepted.
