Clinton Bradley Sherrill Sr.
Nov 19, 1945 - Feb 4, 2017
Clinton Bradley Sherrill Sr., 71, was received into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017, after a courageous battle with brain cancer.
Clinton was born in Crab Orchard, TN, on Nov. 19, 1945, to the late Bradley and Lillie Sherrill. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Doyle, Donald and Andrew Sherrill, as well as two sisters, Greta Lou Sherrill and Rita Belle Thompson.
Clinton spent his childhood in Crossville and moved to Terre Haute, IN, at the age of 19 and married Connie Kaye Compton on June 25, 1966. He served his country as a member of the United States Army, and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, during the Vietnam War. Clinton worked various jobs before settling on a career with the USPS. He retired after 43 years of service, with the last 15 serving as postmaster at Ellettsville, IN. He loved his work and the people he served. Clinton always had a smile and a kind word for everyone he met.
His hobbies included drag racing, fishing, growing his "own groceries" and working on old cars. He was a master at finding uses for duct tape and for finding creative ways to salvage and reuse anything from his garage. His passion was serving his Lord and Savior and witnessing to everyone he met until the brain cancer prevented him from talking. His favorite chapter in the Bible was John 14. He loved his family and treasured the time he spent with all his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Connie Kaye Sherrill; sons, Clinton (Amy) Sherrill Jr., Michael Sherrill and Steven (Kristen) Sherrill; brothers, John Henry (Shorty) Sherrill and Sam (Angela) Sherrill; sisters, Glenda Pfaff and Emily (Alan) Bryant; brother-in-law, Wendell (Judy) Compton; sister-in-law, Rebecca (Rich Koenig) Compton; grandchildren, Morgan, Ben, Brandon, Bailey, Gracie, Katie, Austin, Conner, Ben, Hailey, Lexis, Allison, Abbie, Jacob, Lexie, Emersyn and Maverick; great-grandson, Mathias; several nieces and nephews; and other extended family.
