Funeral services for Rev. Clayton James Padgett, 86, of Crossville, were conducted on Monday, Aug. 14, 2017, at 7 p.m. from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home.
Rev. Harlon Thompson, Rev. Dow Allen, Rev. Frank Davis and Rev. David Harris will officiate. Interment in Frost Cemetery, 1085 Sparta Dr., Crossville, will be on Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2017, at 11 a.m. Friends and family are invited to meet at the cemetery for the burial or a funeral procession will depart from the funeral home at 10 a.m.
Rev. Padgett was born to a large family on June 19, 1931, to the late Burt and Ethel Bilbrey Padgett who resided in Obey City, TN, in Overton County. He passed away on Friday, Aug. 11, 2017, at Cumberland House Hospice in Crossville.
He was a Freewill Baptist Minister. He started preaching at the age of 17 and through his life preached at churches all across the Upper Cumberland until 1998. He also worked at Turner Roofing in Crossville for 39 years.
He is survived by his wife who he married on Nov. 21, 1956, Jessie McCoy Padgett of Crossville; two daughters and sons-in law, Beverley and Stanley Marion of Manchester, TN, and Debra and Philip Jett of Maryville, TN; grandson, Max Jett of Maryville, TN; two sisters, Vanella of Anderson, IN, married to the late Bobby Whitaker and Norene married to J.C. Jernigan of Goodlettsville, TN; a number of nieces and nephews; and an unknown number of friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his many siblings, Laura married to Horace Ramsey, Early married to Earlene Murphy, Opal married to Earl White, Nobel married to Joe Snavely, Mabel married to Richard Day and Mazel married to John McGowan.
The family received friends at Goff Funeral Home on Monday, Aug. 14, 2017, from 3 p.m. until time of services at 7 p.m.
