Billy Colonial Bates, age 77, of Crossville, passed away Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017, at University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville.
He was born Aug. 9, 1939, in Addison, AL, son of the late Archie Bates and Hazel (Rose) Bates. Billy worked as a licensed contractor and was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife, Willa Bates, Crossville; sons, Tony (Darellyn) Bates (McAlester, OK) and Bruce (Lisa) Bates (Clayton, MI); and daughter, Tanya (David) Loveland, Adrian, MI. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, one brother and three sisters. In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by his first wife, Gertrude Baker Bates, and daughter, Nancy Ellen Bates.
Visitation will be held at Bilbrey Funeral Home on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017, from 1 to 3 p.m. Funeral services will be held following the visitation with Bro. Vern Daugherty officiating.
