Bernice (Chader) Tipton, 92, passed away July 27, 2016, in Ionia, MI. She was born Jan. 3, 1924, in Springville, UT, the daughter of Ainer and Inez (Crane) Chader.
Bernice graduated with honors from Springville High School in 1942, and later received a bachelor's degree in education from The University of Nebraska.
On Jan. 7, 1944, during WWII, Bernice enlisted as an Air WAC in the Army Air Corps. She served 26 months in the states as a statistical clerk typist and classification specialist.
Bernice married Calvin Tipton May 24, 1946, in Lincoln, NE. After 63 years of married life, he preceded her in death in 2008.
The couple moved often, both in the military during the Korean War and later when he worked for Exxon in marketing. After his death, Bernice moved to Green Acres Retirement Home in Ionia.
Bernice was a charter member of Christ Lutheran Church in Crossville, TN.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Cal; and one sister.
Surviving are her son, Richard and his wife Kay of Ionia, MI; daughter, Sandra and her husband Chris Keller of Carmel, IN; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and a sister, Jo Ann (Gary) Stout of Sacramento, CA.
A memorial service will be held 3:30 p.m. July 31, 2016, at Green Acres in Ionia with Rev. Scott Otis officiating. Burial will be in the Christ Lutheran Columbarium in Fairfield Glade, TN. Anyone wishing may make memorial contributions to MS or arthritis foundations.
