Barbara Ann Green MacDowell Brant passed away after a serious fall Sept. 3, 2016 at Good Shepherd Hospice in Auburndale, FL.
Barbara was born April 23, 1930, in Akron, OH, to Leavitt Green of Sparta and Gladys Tanner Green of Crossville. She spent much of her formative years growing up in Crossville with Tanner family members. "Uncle" Bud and "Aunt" Elizabeth Tanner took great care of her and she enjoyed all baby farm animals. She also attended Pleasant Hill Academy.
When she returned to Akron, OH, she attended Kent State University and married Courtney MacDowell. Daughter Cathy was born one year later when they moved to Phoenix, AZ. A few years later, they returned to Akron. Their marriage dissolved and Barbara supported herself and Cathy at B.F. Goodrich. There she met the love of her life, second husband William Brant.
After Bill's retirement from Goodrich, they moved to Orlando, FL, to be close to James Monteith and Gladys Monteith (stepfather and mother). They passed away in the early 1990s. Bill passed away in 2002 and Barbara moved to Lake Aston community in Lake Wales, FL, in 2010.
Barbara made a lot of friends and enjoyed mornings at pool and trivia. She loved Florida.
She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by William Brant and parents James and Gladys Monteith.
She is survived by her daughter, Cathy (Dow) Probst-Walker of Crossville; granddaughters, Laura (Rick) Calton of Ft. Myers, FL, and Kimberly (Devin) Radziej of Belmont, NC.
A private service will be held in Lake Wales, FL.
