Arthur Ray Walker Sr., 93, of Crossville, passed away Thursday, Feb. 2, 2017, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center in Cookeville, TN.
He was born Sept. 22, 1923, in New Castle, IN, son of the late Charles Frederick Walker and Wanetta (Stauble) Walker.
Arthur proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He went to jump school in Fort Benning, was assigned to the 101st Airborne and belonged to the Special Forces. Arthur was awarded the CIB (Combat Infantry Badge), a Silver Star, two Bronze Stars and two Purple Hearts. He retired from the United States Army as a Lt. Colonel.
He is survived by his wife, Lois Jean Walker, Crossville; son, Art R. Walker Jr. and wife Eva, Alabama; slaughter, Terry Walker, Lebanon, TN; grandchildren, Walter William Walker and Katherine Elaine Ingle; great-grandchildren, Linda, Vanessa and Taylor; great-great-grandchildren, Gavin and Daniel; and brother, Martin L. Walker, California.
In addition to his parents, Arthur was preceded in death by his sister, Erma Louise Schemenaur.
Memorial services were held at Bilbrey Funeral Home on Sunday, Feb. 5, 2017, at 3 p.m. with Gen. Jack Clark officiating. Interment in Green Acres Memory Gardens.
