Ann's Story

Ann (Anna, Annie) Lucia Kent Kammann passed away on Aug. 30, 2016. She was born April 4, 1929, and raised in Chicago, IL, daughter of German immigrants.
She graduated from Jones Commercial High School and worked at Consolidated Office Supply Company where she met the first love of her life, Bill Kent. They were engaged in April 1947 and married July 19, 1947. During the next 20 years, they lived in Deerfield, IL; Columbus, OH; and Libertyville, IL.
During that time, she became mother to eight children whom she loved dearly. She always said the most important thing you can give a child is your unconditional love. She also hoped that each grandchild and great grandchild would know how special each one was to her, and how proud she was to share in their accomplishments as well as the fun times they had together. Ann always admired her own mother who was very kind and generous, and she used her as a role model for her own life. She accomplished that and more. She was not only the kindest person anyone ever met but also a best friend to all.
In 1987, she and Bill moved to Fairfield Glade, TN, where she worked at the front desk of the Lodge in the Glade for a number of years including several years after Bill passed away.
In 2000, she married Bob Kammann and became mother to his seven grown children! They enjoyed traveling and dancing for several years.
Ann volunteered in many areas of the community including Cumberland County Playhouse as an usher for 29 years, Cumberland County Medical Center gift shop for many years, and several areas of stewardship for St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, such as Eucharistic minister, lector and greeter. Along with her active volunteer activities, she also enjoyed league bowling for many years, hiking, gardening and baking. Her fabulous cookies and baked goods were treasured by all who knew her.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, genuine caring and deep abiding faith. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Ann is survived by her children, Catherine Fugiel (Dan), William Kent (Emilia), Robert Kent (Sherae), Patricia Shafer (Terry), Timothy Kent (Shari), Suzanne Foster, Carol Gahart (Dean) and Terrence Kent (Shannon); 17 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lucia Nahser and Kurt William Berger; siblings, Gertrude Poppenga-Anderson, Karl Kurt Berger (Molly), Dorothy Knoll (Hans) and Emmy Shirmer (Rick); husbands, William Murray Kent and Robert Kammann; and son-in-law, Christopher Foster.
A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016, at 10 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Fr. Kris Bartos officiating. Interment in St. Francis of Assisi Columbarium.
