Alice's Story

Alice Elizabeth Sharp, 90, of Crossville, passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2016, at Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville, TN. She was born March 7, 1926, in Miami Beach, FL, daughter of the late Raymond and Willie Mae Neely Sharp. Her educational accomplishments were many. She earned her Bachelor of the Arts degree with emphasis on science and education and her Master of Arts with a major in genetics. She also held a Ph.D. in the field of adult learning. In addition, Ms. Sharp was a registered nurse.
Alice was a member of the nursing staff and Director of Education at Spahn Hospital in Texas. She was the first person ever to initiate in-service education across all departments at the hospital. She worked as a teacher at both the high school and college levels and created, developed and taught the first high school marine biology class in Texas. At one time, she had her own consulting firm which focused on corporate training. She published many national articles and materials on this subject.
Alice was also a member of the following organizations: Mensa International; R.N. Association; Ocean Conservancy; Sierra Club Nature Conservancy; Writers-Editors Network; Friends of Smithsonian; Alzheimer's Association; Post-Polio International; National WASP WWII Museum; St. Joseph's Indian School; St. Labre Indian School; Best Friend's Animal Society; and University of Texas Alumni. She was recognized in "Who's Who in the South" and "Who's Who of American Women."
Alice is survived by lifelong friend, Lori Prybyl, of Crossville and many loving friends.
Mass will be celebrated at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church at 10 a.m., on Tuesday, April 26, 2016, with Fr. Jim Harvey officiating.
