William F. Hoover, 91 years-young, last week passed away peacefully and went home to be with the Lord. He is survived by his dearly beloved wife of 70 years of marriage, Hilda; by a dear sister, Marilyn; also by their three loving sons and daughters-in-law, Todd and Laney, John and Lori and Bill Jr. and Sara; as well as eight wonderful grandchildren and three precious great grandchildren.
Bill was a World War II veteran, having served in the Army Air Corp as an MP and trained as a B-24 flight mechanic and gunner. After the war, he had a more than three-decades-long career as a field supervisor with Bethlehem Steel Corporation, whose legacy included construction projects such as the Golden Gate Bridge, Madison Square Garden, Metropolitan Opera House, Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, Time-Life Building, Waldorf-Astoria, Chicago's Merchandise Mart, the Chrysler Building and construction of numerous steel mills and ore facilities. Those projects took the family to about two dozen locations in about a dozen different states during Bill's career.
In retirement, he and his wife loved to travel, visit family, garden and especially be part of the outdoors. He was a devoted husband who loved his family dearly and loved the Lord. His casual manner, humble demeanor and easy smile made everyone feel appreciated and loved. He attended the Living Church of God, Crossville, along with his dear wife. Bill modeled to his children as an earthly father the love we receive from our heavenly Father.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Living Church of God, Crossville Congregation, P.O. Box 3473, Crossville 38557. Funeral arrangements have been made through Hood Funeral Home; interment will be in the National Cemetery in Chattanooga.
"In You my soul takes refuge, in the shadow of Your wings I will take refuge," Psalm 56:1.
