Nov. 25, 1942—Feb. 17, 2016 William "Bill" Haynes went to be with his Lord and Savior on Feb. 17, 2016, at the Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center, Knoxville, TN. Bill was born in Port Arthur, TX, on Nov. 25, 1942, son of the late Arline Kieschnick Haynes and Carston Haynes. Bill leaves his beloved wife of 52 years, Sandy; son, Edward Paul Haynes, of Glover, VT; and daughter, Elizabeth Anne and husband Donald Larry Houghton of Conroe, TX. Grandsons Edward Scott and Zachary Paul Houghton will miss their grandfather, affectionately known as “Grumpy.” Bill is also survived by two brothers, Donald Haynes and wife Diane of Hendersonville, TN, and John Haynes and wife Lauri of Nederland, TX. Bill was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School in Port Arthur, TX, and received a BS degree from Lamar University in Beaumont, TX, and a Masters degree in tax law from the University of Houston, Houston, TX. Bill spent his career as a tax analyst with Gulf Oil, Apache Oil and retired from Exxon Mobil after a 40 years in the oil business. Bill and Sandy moved to Crossville, TN, in 2000 to their retirement home on Lake Holiday. Bill was a lifetime member of The Missouri Synod Lutheran Church, most recently of Shepherd of the Hills. He was devoted to and faithfully supported the church and had served as chairman of finances and an elder. In past years, he was an active long distance biker, master gardener and avid hiker. Bill loved the outdoors and enjoyed hiking the beautiful countryside of Tennessee. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. with a memorial service following at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church on March 12, 2016. He will be interned at the church columbarium.
