THP Sergeant Ted A. Swafford III (Ret.), of Crossville, passed away Oct. 3, 2016. He was born Dec. 5, 1943, in Roane County, TN, the son of T.A. Swafford Jr. and Lozenia Tollett Swafford.
Ted served 36 years with the Tennessee Highway Patrol. He was a farmer and served more than four decades with the Cumberland County Fair Association along with many other local clubs and organizations including The Shriners, Farm Bureau Board, Exchange Club and many more. Ted also loved to cook. He was always lending his cooking skills to local groups throughout the years. Ted led a simple life, was passionate and had a huge heart. He was truly dedicated to his work as a Tennessee State Trooper, always taking care of others more than himself. He had a tremendous love for his family especially his daughter Kristi and they will cherish the many memories made during their lives together. He will always be remembered for being the person who never wanted any recognition for himself and for the compassion and pride that he had for his friends and his community.
He is survived by his wife, Irene, of Crossville; daughter, Kristi Swafford Pugh and her husband George also of Crossville; sisters, Linda Long of Pikeville, TN, and Shirley Arnold of Dayton, TN; and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves a host of friends and special caregiver Kim McNeill. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were held Oct. 5, 2016, at 2 p.m. at Central Baptist Church. Bro. Roland Smith and Bro. Doyle Ashburn officiated with burial in Big lick Cemetery. Special music was provided by Roland Kesterson and Kim McNeill. Serving as pallbearers were Lindell Agee, Bob Bottoms, Marcus Davis, Harold Hankins, Bill Hinch, Chris Kendrick, Lealan McSpadden, Bob Morgan, Charlie Orme, George Pugh, Jerry Swafford, Marshall Swafford, Alfred Terry, Travis Terry, Lynn Tollett and Walter Tollett. Members of the Tennessee Highway Patrol served as honorary pallbearers.
