Events

Stephen Edward Barnwell, 72, of Crossville, died peacefully at home on Friday, July 5, 2019.
He was born Nov. 21, 1946, in Crossville, son of the late Emmet Stephen Barnwell and Mattie Mae (Ford) Barnwell.
Steve was a devoted husband to his soulmate, Linda Ann, for 49 years. He will be remembered by his family as a loyal, hardworking provider who sacrificed to ensure his family was always cared for.
Steve's grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his heart and soul. They brought the house to life, he would say. He left them with wonderful memories they will always cherish.
Steve was a wise man of few words and selective of friends. To those close to him he was confidant, supporter and a loyal man who could read a novel in less than a day with a passion for fishing with his best friend, Robert.
Steve served in the US Army from 1967 to 1969 and enlisted in the US Navy in 1979, serving until his retirement in 1997.
He is survived by his daughters, Stephanie Lynn Apple of Crossville and Sheila Ann Crouse (Jim) of Crossville; grandchildren, Amanda Bennett, Amelia Apple, K. Jacob Collette, Devin Apple and Joshua Collette, Gage Lee Crouse and Kayde Michael Crouse; great-grandchildren, Camdyn Bennett, Cooper Bennett, Sylas Collette and Tinley Collette; and sister, Coneita Frady (Dan) of Crossville; longtime friends, Robert Reagan and Darryl Ryder.
In addition to his parents, Stephen is preceded in death by his wife, Linda Ann (Simmons) Barnwell; great-grandchildren, Hunter Collette and Madelyn Bennett; and brother, Scott Barnwell.
Funeral services will be held at Church of God of Prophecy on Tuesday, July 9, at 4 p.m. with Bro. Jack Lawson officiating. Interment in Tolletts Chapel Cemetery.
Bilbrey Funeral Home, Inc. (www.bilbreyfh.com) was in charge of the arrangements.

Barney was a great friend during our Army days in Germany. One of our finest mechanics in HHC 2/32 3rd Armored Division. I have never forgotten the great time we had together. One of the kinds and most helpful persons I have every know. You were well liked, my friend. I know you are enjoying your new assignment with the love of your life. RIP Old Soldier!
