Aug. 28, 1924—Dec. 24, 2015 Shirley Fredricksen, 91, of Fairfield Glade, departed this life on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, 2015, at Cumberland Medical Center. Shirley had been a resident of Fairfield Glade since 1978. Shirley was born in Honolulu, HI, below the famous Diamond Head Mountain in 1924. When she arrived in Fairfield Glade in 1978 she was engaged in a whirlwind of activities. She worked for the Fairfield Glade Community Club, was a certified bowling instructor, loved dancing with the Glade Gliders, and was VFW Auxiliary, Ladies of Elks, Resident Homeowners Association, Neighbors & Newcomers and FFG Ladies Club member. Her greatest passion, however, was for her church, St. Francis of Assisi, where she was a founding member. Shirley’s husband, Fred, built all the original kitchen cabinets for St. Francis and Shirley provided the kitchen supplies. Shirley was a minister of extraordinary care and offered her time, talent and possessions in abundance for her beloved church. In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Fredrick, of 60 years; her brother, John Davis; sister, M. June McConnell; and beloved niece and godchild, Glenda McConnell. She is survived by her beloved son, David of Destin, and grandchildren, Linette and Amy Fredricksen of Michigan. She also leaves behind many relatives and friends who will miss her incredible generosity. A memorial mass to celebrate Shirley’s life will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Fairfield Glade, on Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2016, at 10 a.m. with interment in the St. Francis Columbarium. Bilbrey Funeral Home, Inc. (www.bilbreyfh.com) was in charge of the arrangements.
