Jan. 30, 1940—Sept. 19, 2015 Mrs. Ruby Pearl “Blackie” Hutson Hodge, 75, of the Westel Community in Rockwood, TN, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2015, at her residence with her family by her side. Ruby was born to Harold and Tressie Hutson in Ozone, TN, on Jan. 30, 1940. While Ruby Pearl was her “Mama’s Little Jewel,” her grandmother christened her “Little Blackie” upon see her black-haired granddaughter for the first time. “Blackie” was the nickname that remained with her for more than 75 years. Ruby Pearl was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Tressie Hutson; husband, Paul Bert Hodge; and siblings, Kenneth “Pete” Hutson (1996) and David Hutson (2008). She is survived by her son, Paul Randall Hodge and wife, Paula Carter Hodge; siblings, Lillie Mae Hayes, Troy Hutson, Jerry “Joe” Hutson, Christine Farr and Barbara Farr; aunt, Betty Golliher-Stallcupp; sister-in-laws, Ruth Hutson and Vivian Hutson; brothers-in-law, Glenn Farr, A.M. “Shorty” Farr and Robert Smith; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; and many friends in the Westel community. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2015, in the Chapel of Evans Mortuary. Funeral will be at 4 p.m. with Kirby Hinds and Greg Russell officiating. Burial will follow in the Ozone Cemetery in Ozone, TN. In lieu of flowers, the family asks because Blackie was a Hutson, she would not want you to waste hard-earned money on flowers for her funeral. She would prefer that you keep your money in your pocket. If you are determined to spend money, please consider contributing to Operation REACH (Roane Enriches Another Child’s Holiday), or Roane County PAWS (Pets and Animal Welfare Society). If your prefer, contributions of non-perishable food items may be made to the Food Pantry at the Rockwood Church of Christ, 129 South Chamberlain Ave., Rockwood, TN 37854. The family owes a debt of gratitude to the medical professionals who have kept Blackie comfortable during her final years: Dr. Eric Bowman, Dr. Gregory Brewer, Dr. Shannon Byrd, Dr. Jeffery Crist, Lucy Vara, Sharon Walls, Jamie Baxter, Robin Bryant and Betty Moore. The family is also grateful for the 10 days of Hospice Care provided by Amedysis Hospice. They are also beyond thankful for the care, help and love provided by Onnis and Darla Baird, Tom and Sharla Bowman, John and Erica Rose, Greg and Carol Russell, Alberta Sills, Herbert Woodall, and most of all, Beth Oran and Paula Carter Hodge.
