Robert's Story

Robert Raymond "Ray" Harris Jr., 81, of Crossville, passed away March 29, 2017, at Cumberland House Hospice in Crossville after a brief illness. Ray was born and grew up in Nashville the son of the late Robert R. Harris Sr. and Linnie Mai Adams Harris.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Peggy Flynn Harris, and sisters, Gail Neely of Nashville and Annette Cox of Smyrna, GA.
A graduate of Hillsboro High School, Ray received his B.S. degree from Tennessee Tech after serving in the Army Security Agency. He became involved in building and developing and succeeded his father as owner of Harris Realtors.
Ray was recognized for his acts of kindness and generosity. Through the last several years he and his family have donated numerous acres of forest to the Friends of Radnor Lake for Radnor Lake State Park in Nashville.
He was recently recognized for his generosity in the STEM Lesson Kits program which provides funds for development of science projects for students.
Important values to Ray were diversity of race, religion and gender.
Ray had lived in Cumberland County for the past five years and had enjoyed making it his home.
Funeral services were held at Bilbrey Funeral Home on Saturday, April 1, 2017, at 3 p.m. with Steve Ward, park manager of Radnor Lake State Park, officiating. Interment in Crossville City Cemetery.
