Robert Lester Fawcett

August 16, 1927 - September 01, 2018

Robert Lester Fawcett Robert Lester Fawcett, 91, of Fairfield Glade, was called home to be with the Lord Sept. 1, 2018. He passed away at Cumberland House in Crossville.
He was born Aug. 16, 1927, in Chicago, IL, son of Frank Lester Fawcett Sr. and Lucille Edith (Wilson) Fawcett.
A recognized student at age 16, he was awarded a scholarship to Illinois Institute of Technology and graduated with his Bachelor of Science in just three years. After college, Bob wed the love of his life, Arlene Anderson. Their married life began with a move to Cedar Rapids, IA, where he began his career in insurance. With two children in tow and a third on the way, the family moved to Traverse City, MI. Bob was an astute businessman and record keeper.
He exercised these skills as president and co-owner of Fawcett/Dopke Insurance Agency. Bob was generous with his free time and enjoyed an active role in giving back to the community. He held the offices ofpPresident of the Chamber of Commerce, president of Kiwanis Club, elder of the Presbyterian Church and life member of the B.P.O.E. He also contributed many hours to the National Cherry Festival and to the expansion and improvement of Munson Medical Center all in Traverse City.
Bob and Arlene retired to Fairfield Glade, TN, in 1995. Bob followed his lifelong dreams of playing golf and seeing the world. He belonged to multiple country clubs and golf leagues and shot his age multiple times. When he wasn't on the course, Bob traveled with Arlene on many once-in-a-lifetime excursions. They visited six of the seven continents and conquered all 50 states. The door was always open to them by family and friends who lived north, south, east and west.
Faith and the church community were important to Bob. He became a member of the FFG Community Church in November 1995. He served on many committees and remained active in the congregation until his passing. Many close friendships were formed from his and Arlene's devotion and passion for the church. In addition to church activities, Bob and Arlene volunteered regularly at the Good Sams thrift store in Crossville.
As a father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, Bob will be remembered as fun-loving, curious, generous, hardworking and incredibly intelligent. He was a knowledgeable wordsmith who loved reading, solving word puzzles and the challenge of golf and billiards. He loved the Lord, enjoyed his walks and taught his grandkids proper stretching techniques.
Bob leaves behind Arlene, his wife of "70 Wonderful Years;" daughter, Barbara; sons, David and Thom, and their spouses; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two half-brothers, Frank and Bobby, and their families. Bob will be missed but not forgotten, until we meet again.
Memorial Services will be held Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018, at 3:30 p.m. at Fairfield Glade Community Church. Interment will be at a later date in the Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Traverse City, MI.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to Good Samaritans of Cumberland County at 281 10th St., Crossville, TN 38555, or the FFG Community Church Library at 521 Snead Dr., Fairfield Glade, TN 38558.
