Robert Ervin Dodson, 80, of Crossville, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2016, at Cumberland Medical Center.
He was born March 15, 1936, in Van Buren County to Venus F. Dodson and Alla Mae Clouse Dodson. In 1945 the family relocated to Pleasant Hill, TN, so that the children could receive a proper education. Robert graduated from Pleasant Hill High School in 1955. He served in the United States Air Force from 1956-'60 and spent much of his time in Iceland.
Upon returning home from the service he began working as a full-time farmer. Throughout his life he raised cattle, limited crops and hogs with his three sons. He also worked for the Cumberland County School System as a bus driver for 11 years and spent 30-plus years as an ordained Methodist minister. He served churches in Cumberland and White counties and after retirement he was always ready to help a church in need of a minister.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years Barbara Newberry Dodson, Rick (Kellie) Dodson, Rodney (Debbie) Dodson and Bobby (Cissy) Dodson, all of Crossville. In addition he is survived by brother V. J. Dodson of Pleasant Hill; Anna Ruth Tucker of Mulberry, FL; grandchildren, Nathan Dodson of Honolulu, HI, Matthew Dodson of Franklin, TN, Karissa (Chris) Green of Crossville, Gary Platz Jr. of Crossville, Kelsie Dodson of Crossville, and Eli Dodson of Crossville; and great granddaughter Harper Green of Crossville. He is also survived by a multitude of loving family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Hubert Bascom Dodson.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Oct. 1, 2016, at Hood Funeral Home with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers included Nathan Dodson, Matthew Dodson, Wayne Dodson, Jennifer J. J. Lowe, Jerry Newberry, Terry Lowe, Gary Platz Jr., Jeff Dodson and Scott Hogue.
