Mr. Robert Vergil "R.V." Davis, 85, of Sparta, passed away Thursday morning, Oct. 19, 2017, at his residence.
Mr. Davis was born Nov. 8, 1931, in the Big Bottom Community of White County to the late George Virgil and Anna Bell Dycus Davis. He worked on every aspect of construction and was a "Jack of All Trades." R.V. was an antique car enthusiast, traveling to car shows all over the country. His true passion and dedication was to the U.S. Navy, as he proudly served on the Destroyer DD754 Frank E. Evans.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Georgetta Joanne Smith Davis; sisters, Dorothy McWilliams and Juel Davis; brother, Bransford Davis; and an infant sibling.
Survivors include his daughters, Bobbie Jo Vandever and Lisa and husband Jackie Cannon, all of Crossville; son, Tony L. Davis and Carla Hagerman of Sparta; grandchildren, Tim Vandever, Christy (Shane) Smith, Jared E. Davis and wife Breanna, and Jordan T. Davis; great-grandchildren, Bailee, Emary, Elijah, Lydia Grace, Lynkin, Londyn, Hagan and Paisley; sister, Mary Ruth Haston of McMinnville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 23, 2017, from the chapel of Hunter Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Frasier's Chapel Cemetery with full military honors presented by the Veterans' Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Hunter Funeral Home. Dr. Wayne Haston will officiate. Jared Davis, Jordan Davis, Shane Smith, Timothy Vandever, Polk Sims and Mickey McWilliams will serve as pallbearers.
