Aug. 21, 1935-Feb. 3, 2019
Robert (Bob) Eugene Boevers, 83, of Fairfield Glade, passed away Sunday, Feb. 3, 2019, at Cumberland Medical Center in Crossville.
He was born Aug. 21, 1935, in Chicago, IL, son of the late Herbert George Boevers and Lillian W. (Harder) Boevers. Bob attended Proviso High School in Maywood, IL, and later, Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, IL.
Bob was honorably discharged from the United States Navy after serving from 1958 to 1962. He served as a lieutenant aboard the USS Aeolus as a supply officer and had assignments in the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. His voyages took him from San Francisco, through the Panama Canal to the Caribbean and the North Sea. Bob concluded his career in the Navy working at the Naval Payroll Office in Washington D.C., where he met his wife, Marrietta. Bob was very proud to have served his country.
After his Naval career, Bob worked for over 30 years at the American Can Company as a plant manager. His first assignment was in Maywood, IL, near his childhood home. He had subsequent stops in Madison, IN; New Orleans, LA; and finally, Prior Lake, MN. Following his retirement in 1994, Bob enjoyed many interests including golf (playing and watching), current events, car shopping, working on his lawn, and traveling to see family and friends. He rarely missed a chance to visit the apple orchards and to enjoy the fall colors on long Sunday rides. Bob was always ready to help a person in need and cared deeply for his family. He showed his love and devotion to them in many ways. His capacity to love and sense of humor will be missed by all that knew him.
Bob is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marrietta "Sam" Boevers, Fairfield Glade; daughters, Lynne Suzanne Smith of Crossville and Elaine Boevers of Chaska, MN; son, Peter Robert (Jessica) Boevers of Chanhassen, MN; grandchildren, Olivia Lynne Lewis of Ashland, KY, Joshua Rhodes Boevers and Clarice Helena Boevers, both of Chanhassen, MN; great-grandchildren, Katelyn (Katy) Grace Lewis and Charles (Cort) David Lewis IV; and sisters-in-law, Thelma McComas, Doris Reyes and Linda (Donald) Bowman. He is also survived by many special nieces and nephews, along with many dear friends.
In addition to his parents, Bob is preceded in death by his brothers, Donald Boevers and Gerald Boevers.
A celebration of Bob's life will be scheduled at a later date. Details will be published at the time of scheduling.
Bilbrey Funeral Home, Inc. (www.bilbreyfh.com) was in charge of the arrangements.
