Robert Charles Ahrendt, who passed away Nov. 20, 2017, was born on March 23, 1934, in Chicago Heights, IL. He served UCC churches in Illinois, Iowa, Ohio and Indiana.
He moved to Uplands in Pleasant Hill after retiring in 1999. At Uplands, he began his second career doing volunteer work for many different organizations, including one week each year with Northern Illinois University students working on Habitat for Humanity, the month of December with Cumberland Good Samaritan Christmas for Kids, and one month each summer at Shannondale UCC Church Community Center, camp and sustainable tree farm in the Missouri Ozarks. He also spent hours doing repairs for many Upland residents, Pleasant Hill Community Church and the Grab thrift shop.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elaine; children, Pam, Gary (Liza) and Joel; five grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2017, at the Pleasant Hill Community Church.
Memorials can be made to the building fund of the Pleasant Hill Community Church or the church of your choice.
