Richard Leroy Hoglund, 80, of Crossville, passed away Sunday, Sept. 24, 2017, at Wharton Nursing Home in Pleasant Hill, TN.
He was born Nov. 10, 1936, in La Crosse, WI, son of the late Milton Leroy Hoglund and Ethel Marie (Grunditz) Hoglund.
He attended Ottawa University before transferring to the University of Wisconsin where he received a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering. Upon graduation, he began employment at the Oak Ridge Gaseous Diffusion Plant. He spent his entire working career in the Oak Ridge facilities with the exception of the two years he attended Indiana University to work on his MBA and two off-site assignments in Brussels, Belgium and Livermore, CA. He also holds a master's degree in chemical engineering from the University of Tennessee. He was a member of the engineering honor society Tau Beta Pi.
While living in Oak Ridge, he was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church. He served as an assistant Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 224 for 15 years.
He and his wife, Donna, moved to Fairfield Glade in 1999 where he became an active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Fairfield Glade.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Ponton Hoglund.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Donna Stage Hoglund; sons, Robert (Suzanne) Hoglund, New York, NY, David (Susanna) Hoglund, Milwaukee, WI, James (Nazanin) Hoglund, Dallas, TX, and Jon (Heather) Tyson, Springboro, OH; daughter, Cheryl Mulet, Miami Springs, FL; grandsons, David & Kevin (Jessica) Mulet and Henry, Jacob, Conrad, Cameron, Connor & August Hoglund; granddaughters, Grace Hoglund, Naomi Tyson and Hannah Hoerter; sisters, Barbara (Tom) Clark, Scottsdale, AZ, and Elizabeth (David) Trapp, Onalaska, WI; sister-in-law, Carol (Dennis) Jebsen, Yantis, TX; brother-in-law, William McCrea, Mission, KS; nieces and nephews; and special family members Michael and Jobina Woltman and their three children, Taylor, Niclas (Jaclyn) and Mikayla of Port St. John, FL.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. CST on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017, at Christ Lutheran Church in Fairfield Glade. The family will receive friends an hour before the service. Interment of the ashes will be held at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Christ Lutheran Church Outreach Fund, the National Parkinson Foundation or Alzheimer's Tennessee.
