Phyllis Wade Williamson, 92, of Fairfield Glade, TN, passed away on Monday, Aug. 21, 2017.
Phyllis is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Ivan Leon Williamson; daughters, Cynthia Hill (Greenfield, IN) and Jill Williamson (San Antonio, TX); sisters, Emma Lee Slagle (Muncie, IN) and Joyce Lange (West Lafayette, IN); and several nieces and nephews.
Phyllis was born in Cincinnati, OH, and in her youth her family moved to Lebanon, IN, where she graduated from Lebanon High School in 1944. She attended Indiana University and Ray-Vogue School in Chicago, studying fashion and design for which she exhibited a passion and talent. She was an excellent seamstress and tailor, the occupation she worked in after WWII in Indianapolis. In 1962, Phyllis, Leon and the girls moved to Ft. Wayne, IN, due to Leon's transfer with GMAC. Another transfer in 1964 took the family to Indianapolis for the next 30 years. Phyllis and Leon retired to Fairfield Glade in 1994.
In Indianapolis, Phyllis was active in Tri-Kappa (philanthropic sorority), Antique Club, bridge, sewing and pattern design, and volunteering in the community. Phyllis took up golf upon moving to Tennessee. She was very devoted to her neighbors, friends and family and was humbly unselfish with her time and talents toward everyone.
The family would like to express their sincere gratefulness for all of the wonderful kindnesses and compassion given Phyllis by the caretakers at the Life Care Center of Crossville, Wharton Nursing Home (Pleasant Hill, TN) and Camellia Healthcare.
A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. CST on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017, at Fairfield Glade Community Church. Interment will occur at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon, IN.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice House of Cumberland County or the charity of your choice in memory of Phyllis.
