Oscar Lee Elmore, 82, of Crossville, passed away Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018, at Signature HealthCARE of Putnam County in Cookeville, TN.
He was born May 25, 1935, in Crossville, son of Joseph C. Elmore and Myrtle (Jones) Elmore.
Oscar worked at Taft Youth Center as a procurer and was of the Baptist faith. He also proudly served his country in the United States Army.
He is survived by his sons, Terry Elmore of Crossville and Larry Elmore of Stewartsville, NJ; daughter, Dianne Melton of Crossville; grandchildren, Tommy Melton, April Melton Guinn (A.J.) and Lacey Melton; and sister, Betty Jo Dunaway of Crossville.
In addition to his parents, Oscar was preceded in death by his wife, Bettye Dianne (Coe) Elmore; brother, JC Elmore (Elsie); and sisters, Carlene Tollett (Leonard) and Billie Ruth Goss (Andy).
Memorial services will be held at the Cumberland Mountain State Park Recreation Center on Sunday, Feb. 11, 2018, starting at 1 p.m. and seating at 12:30 p.m. with Bruce Wyatt officiating. Honorary pallbearers are the ladies at Mitchell's Drug Store: Peggy Evans, Jewel Payne, Barbara Underwood, Nancy Owens, Tess Gilbert, Pam Bilyeu and Mary Lou Mitchell. Immediately following the service, family and friends are invited to come to Edgewood Restaurant to visit and have beans and cornbread.
It was Oscar's wishes that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Homestead Tower Association or to the Woody Cemetery.
