Mary Ellen Oakes, 76, of Crossville, passed away Aug. 5, 2017. She was born May 30, 1941, in Muncie, IN, the daughter of Earl and Ernie Beaty Reagan. She was retired after 31 years as a teacher in the Cumberland County school system having taught at Tabor and North School. She was also a member of West Ave. Church of Christ. She enjoyed puzzles, gardening and working with genealogy. She was a huge Lady Vols fan and loved spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Creshia Hillis and her husband Mike of Crossville; brother, Bud Reagan and his wife Margie of Crossville; sisters, Reba Pugh of Crossville and Cora Winningham of Charleston, SC; grandchildren, Devin, Riley and Beaty Hillis; and several nieces and nephews who loved her very much. She also leaves many students who were so very fond of her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Estel Oakes; brothers, Jr. Reagan and George Reagan; and sister, Ruth Beaty.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2017, at 1 p.m. from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Green Acres Memory Gardens.
