Martha Jean Freeman


Martha Jean Freeman, 65, of Crossville, passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2019, at Cumberland Medical Center.
She was born March 15, 1954, in Cookeville, daughter of the late Abner M. Gentry and Martha D. (Loftis) Gentry.
Jean worked as a registered nurse throughout her career and retired from OB/GYN Associates of Cookeville. An avid outdoor enthusiast, Jean enjoyed camping, rafting and hiking and was the first woman to earn a Wood Badge in the Scouting Leadership Program. She was also a member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Cookeville.
She is survived by her husband, Kevin Day Freeman; granddaughters, Addison Day Freeman and Bailey Day Freeman; and mother-in-law, Kim Duke; daughter-in-law, Nikki (Freeman) Pippin; and sisters, Louvina Roberts and Harriett Franklin. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews who were all very close to her, other family members, and a number of friends in both Cookeville and Crossville.
In addition to her parents, Jean is preceded in death by son, Desmond Day Freeman; brothers, H.P. Gentry, Carl Gentry, George Gentry and Mark Gentry; and sisters, Helen Wood and Castella Jones.
Memorial services will be held at Holladay Church of Christ on Saturday, July 20, at 3 p.m. with Bro. Johnny W. Fox officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1 to 3 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you be kind to one another in Jean's memory.
