April 29, 1929—Feb. 3, 2015 Marlin Beech, 85, of Fairfield Glade, passed away on the morning of Feb. 3, 2015. He was born April 29, 1929, in Belfast, TN, the son of Bernice and Iva Abbott Beech. He was in the Korean War and was a true patriot. He considered it an honor to serve his country. After returning from active duty, he met his wife, Marilyn, in Roane County, TN, where he worked and served the community for over 40 years. Marlin never met a stranger, and he used this trait to become a talented and hardworking salesperson who owned The Bootery shoe and clothing store in Kingston. He gave back to the community by volunteering for many organizations including The Great Smoky Mountain Council of Boy Scouts of America, Roane County Chamber of Commerce, Kingston Rotary Club and Roane County Schools. Marlin loved the Lord. Winning souls for Christ was his chief aim in life. He was in The Gideons International for 43 years, served as Sunday school teacher, deacon and helped with church visitation. He also enjoyed gardening and taking care of his lawn and was a passionate UT Vol fan. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Beech of Fairfield Glade; son, Ron Beech and his wife, Carol, of Miamisburg, OH; grandchildren, Marlie Beech, Kaylie Beech, Chris Beech and Nathan Beech; brothers, Terry Beech of Lebanon and Jerry Beech of Lewisburg; sister, Lois Gentry of Lewisburg; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers and four sisters. At the time of his death, he was a member of Pine Eden Baptist Church. Funeral services were held Feb. 6 from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home. Burial was in Roane Memorial Gardens in Rockwood, TN. Full military honors were given. Hood Funeral Home and Crematory, LLC (www.hoodfuneralhome.com) was in charge of the arrangements.
