Lt. Col. Richard's Story
Lt. Col. Richard "Dick" Donald Cote, 98, of Fairfield Glade, TN, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2018, at Wyndridge Health and Rehab Center in Crossville.
He was born Aug. 7, 1919, in Chicago, IL, son of Leon Cote and Mae (Trant) Cote.
Dick was a career military man for the United States Air Force. He proudly served his country in World War II (where he flew the Douglas C-47 Skytrain and the B-25 Mitchell Bomber), the Korean War, and Vietnam (where he flew the C-130 Hercules).
In 1970, he retired as a lieutenant colonel while stationed at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida. During his next 27 years in Florida, Dick enjoyed bowling, fishing, golfing and sailing and was a member of the Elks Lodge and Ft. Walton Yacht Club.
Upon moving to Tennessee in 1997, he continued to golf, play cards, read and particularly enjoyed traveling with local groups. He also attended St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Jane Cote, Fairfield Glade; son, Richard (Pat) Cote of Texas; step-daughter, Karin Wetzel of Indiana; and step-son, Robert Emmonds of Alabama.
Dick was preceded in death by his first wife, Janett (Hollingshead) Cote; infant son; father, Leon Cote; and mother, Mae (Trant) Cote.
A memorial mass will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Friday, Feb. 16, 2018, at 10 a.m. with Fr. Albert Sescon officiating. Interment in St. Francis of Assisi Columbarium.
