Lewis Edward Rusk, 90, of Crossville, passed away on Dec. 30, 2016, of natural causes.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Joan (Wermes); sons, Gary (Pamela) and Kenneth (Kathy) of Crossville, Mark (Mary) of Vicksburg, MI, and Kevin of Scottsdale, AZ; grandchildren, Kimberly (Joey) Vaughan of Oxford, MS, Laura (Erik) Jerks of Mattawan, MI, and Kyle (Kimberly) Rusk of Kalamazoo, MI; and great grandchildren, Graham Vaughan, Abigale Rusk, Harper Vaughan and Rosibel Rusk.
Lewis was born Nov. 10, 1926, in Kokomo, IN, to John Elmore and Lucy (Long) Rusk. Lewis, the youngest of four brothers, was preceded in death by brothers Lloyd and Cloyd and survived by James of Royal Center, IN. As a child, Lewis and his family moved from Kokomo during the Depression, to a farm near Twelve Mile, IN.
After graduating from high school, Lewis joined the Navy in 1944 and served on the USS Zellars. After serving, he was employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad and its many successors until his retirement in 1981. Lewis married Joan Wermes of Logansport in 1949. They and their sons lived in several communities throughout northwest Indiana but predominately in and near Newton County.
Lewis' favorite activities included gardening, bowling, playing euchre, attending his sons' many sporting events and sharing generously with his time helping others. A Celebration of Life will be held for Lewis at a later date.
