Aug. 6, 1939—Oct. 24, 2015 Juliann DeKoning Hickerson, 76, of Fairfield Glade, TN, passed away Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015, at Cumberland Medical Center in Crossville. She was a multiple cancer survivor of over 43 years. She was born Aug. 6, 1939, in Byron Center, MI, daughter of the late Jasper DeKoning Sr. and Jeanette (Huizenga) DeKoning. Juliann retired as a gifted and talented teacher for exceptional students in the North Carolina school system and was a member of the Christian Reform Church. She began her education career as librarian at the Boston Public Library. She is survived by her devoted husband of over 50 years, Howard Hickerson, Fairfield Glade, TN; sister, Marge Bantjes (John), MI; brothers, Donald DeKoning (Marlene), MI, and Jasper DeKoning Jr. (Cindy), MI. She is also survived by many loved nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Juliann was preceded in death by her sister, Arlene VanSolkema; brother-in-law, Wesley VanSolkema; and niece, Gloria VanSolkema. Memorial services will be held at Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2015, at 12:30 p.m. with the Rev. Jay Archer and Rev. Moses Han officiating.
