Joyce Ann Shelton, 82, of Fairfield Glade, TN, peacefully passed away at her home on Sept. 15, 2017.
Joyce was born in Spearfish, SD, on May 27, 1935. She was a rancher's daughter and was privileged to attend a good part of her schooling years in a one room schoolhouse on the Glover Ranch in Crook County Wyoming where her mother was the teacher. Joyce graduated high school from Spearfish High School. Joyce was a direct descendent of Mary Baker Eddy, founder of the Christian Science Church. Joyce was an accomplished horsewoman and animal advocate. She earned her private pilot's license and was a Master Gardner award receiver on many occasions.
Joyce retired from the Department of Defense (Civilian) with over 30 years of service. Her assignments were worldwide. Joyce was a veteran in the US Navy. In her retirement, she traveled extensively with her husband and settled in Fairfield Glade, TN. She was an active member of the Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church.
Joyce is survived by her husband, George Martin Shelton and four step children. She has two sons, Michael Denzin (Anne) of Leesburg, VA, and Bradly Denzin (Suzanne) of Piperton, TN; six grandchildren, Nicholas Denzin (Jessica), Megan Denzin, Jacob Denzin, Dustin Denzin (Tessa), Rachel Denzin and David Denzin (Lenzie); and two great-grandchildren, Vivian and Delilah.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Glover and Helen Glover; brother, William (Pat) Lee Glover; and her beloved pets Gigi and Heidi.
Memorial services will be held on Sunday, Sept. 24, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church. Reception to follow in the church hall.
