Aug. 29, 1956—May 30, 2015 Joey Lawson Whitaker, Sr., 58, of Crossville, passed away May 30, 2015, at Cumberland Medical Center in Crossville. He was born Aug. 29, 1956, in Georgia and moved to Florida at age three. He loved to talk about the good old days and his happy childhood. He was an avid pool player with many wins and taught his wife a good game. He was a lifetime member of DAV. He served in the Marine Corps and loved being a Marine. He also honored his fellow veterans. He married his wife, Connie Whitaker, in 1997 and moved to Tennessee in 2002. He loved to garden and play with his faithful boxer girl, Ginger. He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Connie Whitaker of Crossville; daughters, Shannon Whitaker (with children Payton and Shea-Lin) of Florida, Denise Beaty (Tommy) of Tennessee and Debbie Nicholson (Mike) of Virginia; sisters, Fay Nettles, Sue Thompson (Paul), Kay Wilden (Eric) and Ruby Piatt (Tony), all of Florida; special angels/granddaughters, Brittany and Brianna Whitaker; other grandchildren, Michael, Chase, Jr, Allison, Kristina, Elizabeth, Chipper and Travis; aunt, Doris Jackson; cousin, David Peavy; step-sons, Larry Kriebel (Shannon) of Virginia and Michael Kriebel (Claudia) with children Amber, Lauren and Jordan of Minnesota; special friends and sisters-in-Law, Dawn Moore and Patti Moore; special friend, Iva Dixon of Alabama; special friend and cousin, Ira Whitaker; and many more relatives and friends living in various places. He was preceded in death by beloved son, Joey (Jo Jo) Whitaker, II; grandson and baby, Joey, III; parents, Aubry and Mildred Whitaker; brothers, Dennis Edward Whitaker, Jerry Whitaker, T.A. Whitaker and Larry Whitaker; grandma, Amy Dunn; aunt, Margaret Peavy; and cousin, Barbara Troehler. Graveside services were held at Crossville City Cemetery on June 2, 2015, at 1 p.m. with Bro. Shane Williams officiating. Bilbrey Funeral Home, Inc. (www.bilbreyfh.com) was in charge of the arrangements.
