Dec. 28, 1919—March 5, 2015 James A. Clevenger, 95, of Fairfield Glade, passed away March 5, 2015, at Cumberland Medical Center. A private memorial service with full military honors was held with immediate family March 9 at Hood Funeral Home, with the Rev. Michael Kerley of Cornerstone Baptist Church officiating. James was born Dec. 28, 1919, in Pontiac, IL, the son of Crum Clevenger and Ella Hughes Clevenger. James graduated valedictorian from Worsham College of Mortuary Science and was a proud member of Delta Pi Epsilon Fraternity. He retired from the menswear business and settled in Fairfield Glade with his wife of 63 years, Elba Ailes Clevenger, now deceased. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II as a staff sergeant in New Caledonia in the medical supply division. Survivors are son, James J. Clevenger and wife, Michele, of Maryville, TN; daughters, Patricia Meade of Crossville and Susan Schnurr and husband, Martin, of Goshen, CT; grandchildren, Jodi Meade and Martin, Michael and Patrick Schnurr; and great-granddaughter, Phoebe Jo Meade. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and two brothers. Hood Funeral Home and Crematory, LLC (www.hoodfuneralhome.com) was in charge of the arrangements.
