James Alward Buehring
He was born in Denver, CO, son of Harry F. and Ruby Amelia (Currie) Buehring. After graduating from high school Jim worked for Consolidate Aircraft Company in San Diego, CA. He joined the USMC in February 1944 where he served as a corporal until July 1946. Jim served in the VMF 214 Black Sheep Squadron under Pappy Boyington's command during WWII.
After the WWII, Jim earned a BA in Economics and Political Science from the University of Colorado, class of 1949. He then went on to earn a Certificate of Graduation from The American Institute for Foreign Trade from the Thunderbird School of Global Management, Arizona State University in Phoenix, Arizona in June 1950. Jim was married to his first wife, Leila Dean Parr, until her passing in 1978. He worked at TACOM, formerly Army Tank Automotive Command (ATAC), in logistics, until his retirement in 1984.
In 1986, Jim, and his second wife, Dorris, retired to Fairfield Glade. Jim enjoyed life to the fullest and was an eternal optimist. He enjoyed the simple pleasures in life including every meal he ever ate and every drink he ever drank. He was a loving partner, father and grandfather and loved to socialize with friends and neighbors. He read the paper daily, and was an active bridge and crossword puzzle player until his passing. In earlier years he was an avid sportsman, playing golf, tennis and fishing. He shot his age in golf into his late 80s. He was a member of the Rotary, Elks and the Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church. Jim was an avid sports fan and followed golf, football, tennis and read the sports pages in the US Today daily.
Jim is survived by his wife of 36 years, Dorris Marie Buehring, of Fairfield Glade; his son, James F. Buehring (Donna); her son, Joel, and grandson, Christian Buehring of Paulden, AZ; granddaughter, Jessica (Roy) Stiles, and great-grandchildren, Finley and Mackenzie; grandson, Greg Buehring (Jessyca), and great-grandchildren, Emma and Lincoln; Jim's daughter, Nancy K. Hawkins (Forrest), of Mt. Pleasant, MI; grandchildren, Billy and Jacob; stepdaughter, Suzanne P. Standish (Peter) of Milford, CT; grandchildren, Alexander Quintner, DMD (Maria), and great-grandchildren, Oscar and Henry, and Rachel Ward (Theodore) and great-grandchildren, Sebastian and Charlotte.
Jim is predeceased by his parents, his sister Barbara Mora, and his first wife Leila Dean Parr.
In lieu of flowers, if desired, donations can be sent to the Fairfield Glade Methodist Church.
A memorial and celebration of Jim's life will be held at the Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church on Jan. 26, 2019, at 10 a.m.
