It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Irene Wiren. She passed peacefully in her home surrounded by her children on April 28, 2018. She will be missed.
Irene was born in Atlanta, GA, and grew up in Metairie, LA. She attended Metairie Grammar School and Metairie High School. She received her nursing degree from Touro (Tulane University) where she met the love of her life, William (Bill). Irene and Bill were wed in 1956 in Metairie, LA, and Bill has waited in heaven for her since 2009.
Irene had a successful nursing career, was involved in Boy and Girl Scouts, was active in her church and was a volunteer nurse at Camp Webb, an Episcopal Church Camp. After retiring to Fairfield Glade, Irene was a volunteer and former board member at Cumberland County Hospice, an active member of St. Raphael's Episcopal Church in Crossville, a volunteer at Good Samaritans,and former treasurer of the Nurses club. She enjoyed bowling and playing bridge and was an avid reader. She will be remembered for her sense of humor.
She is preceded in death by her husband, William (Bill) Wiren; son, William (Billy) Wiren; mother, Ruth Morris; father, Percy Morris; and brother, Edward Morris.
She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Wiren and Kristina Wiren Kniebes; son, Mark Wiren; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two honorary grandchildren.
There will be a memorial service at St. Raphael's Episcopal Church in Crossville on June 2 at 10 a.m.
