Helen Merle Ledbetter Hoover, 72, of Crossville, passed away at her home May 14, 2017. She was born Sept. 19, 1944, in Rockwood, TN, the daughter of Alton Dewey and Verda Carlock Ledbetter. She was a registered nurse and a graduate of Midway University in Midway, KY. She worked 41 years as a nurse and an educator. Writing was a pastime she greatly enjoyed but the most precious time was spent with her loving family. She was also a member of Memorial Baptist Church.
She is survived by her son, Gregory K. Hoover M.D. and his wife Jill of Knoxville, TN; brothers, Julian Ledbetter and his wife Maxine and Jesse Ledbetter, all of Crossville; sister, Joyce Phipps of Mt. Juliet, TN; and grandsons, Colby Hoover and his wife Megan, Joshua Hoover and Noah Hoover; and granddaughter, Megan Hoover.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Jimmy Dale Hoover; brother, Lyle Ledbetter; and sisters, Louise Ledbetter McCoy and Carolyn Ledbetter Lowhorn.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday May 17, 2017, at 1 p.m. from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Cold Springs Cemetery. Pastor Mike McCoy will officiate and serving as pallbearers will be Colby Hoover, Joshua Hoover, Noah Hoover, Vince Lowhorn, Joey Ledbetter and Richard Ledbetter. Honorary pallbearers will be Dale Phipps, Mark Ledbetter, Marty Hoover and Shawn Lowhorn.
