Gladys Ruth Pendergrass, 89, of Crossville, passed away Nov. 7, 2016. She was born Jan. 23, 1927, in Cumberland County, TN, the daughter of Crockett and Jessie Garrison Knox.
She was retired as a bookkeeper with the Cumberland County School System and a member of Bible Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Cumberland County Rescue Squad Crewettes for more than 30 years and was a lifetime member of the Womens Auxiliary of State Associations of Rescue Squads. She enjoyed gardening and canning. She also liked to quilt and spend time working in her flowers.
She is survived by her daughter, Leona Wyatt of Crossville, TN, and her good friend Jo Matlock; sisters, Jewell Hill and her husband Dallas and Alice Brown and her husband Jim, all of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Jeffrey Jones and his wife Melissa of Crossville, and Miranda Hurd and her husband Ryan of Crossville; great grandchildren, Emily Cope and her husband Dustin, and Michael Hurd; and great great grandson, Jackson Cope.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Casto Caruthers and John Pendergrass; brothers, Cordell, Ridley and Raymond Knox; and sisters, Mary Conaster and Agnes Hall.
Funeral services will be held Thursday November 10, 2016 at 11am from the Chapel of Hood Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 10-11am one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Green Acres Memory Gardens.
