Edward Camden Witt, 92, passed away on Oct. 23, 2016, at Cumberland Hospice House.
A graduate of The University of Virginia, he worked briefly for General Electric in New York before being recruited to support the Manhattan Project in Tennessee. Ed then spent over 35 years at the Oak Ridge complex in electrical engineering and systems management roles at Y-12 and K-25 before retiring in 1980. During those years he and his growing family lived in Oak Ridge, Knoxville and Powell, where he was a member of Inskip Baptist Church and then Powell First Baptist Church. He spent his retirement in the Fairfield Glade resort community of Crossville, where he was a longtime member and Sunday school teacher at Fairfield Glade First Baptist Church.
Ed is survived by his wife, Betty; six children, Brenda Drummond (Jim), Lucretia McDonald, Cecylle Trout, Tamara Witt, Melanie Witt (Petr Fechtner) and Todd Witt (Rachel); 10 grandchildren, Michael Sharp, Bryan McDonald, Damien Sharp, Craig McDonald, Matt Powell, Chase Powell, Farish Jerman, Rebekah Witt, Camden Witt and Zachary Witt; and six great-grandchildren.
Following cremation, a service of remembrance will be held at 5 p.m. CDT, Thursday, Oct. 27, at Fairfield Glade First Baptist Church, with family visitation prior, from 4 to 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fairfield Glade First Baptist Church Building Fund or Cumberland County Hospice in Crossville.
