Donald Richard Champion, 68, of Chesterfield, VA, passed away peacefully in his home on Dec. 3, 2017, with his wife of 48 years by his side.
Rick was born on Oct. 20, 1949, and as a young boy loved growing up in the foothills of Crossville. He served our country as a Marine and retired from DuPont after 34 years of service as an H&V Technician. He enjoyed life and had an impeccable sense of humor. If you were lucky enough to know him, you know he was as intelligent as he was asinine. He was a wealth of knowledge both useful and useless and his stories shall forever live in our hearts. After all, he always said it was his granddaddy who invented everything known to mankind, nobody ever told him nothing and he was certain it was all his fault anyway. He was a man's man and enjoyed gardening, NASCAR, football, hunting and fishing but it was his six grandchildren who gave him the greatest enjoyment in life.
He is survived by his wife, "Sweetness" - Karen Champion (66) their four daughters: "O-Eldest"- Christie Fidura (47); "Turtle"- Vikki Hamlin (44); "Butt" - Stacy Champion (43); and "Hiney" - Tracy Canady (43), and his six grandchildren: "Sweetie Pie"- Raegan Boze (20); "Matthew Boy" - Matt Hamlin (19); "Becky Girl" - Rebecca Hamlin (17); "Sarah Girl" - Sarah Hamlin (16); "CoCo Boy"- Coleman Boze (15); and "Little L"- Eliane Fidura (12); brother, Mike Champion of Hanover, VA; and two sisters, Bridget Hackett (John) of Johnson City, TN, and Bobbie Horine of Tullahoma, TN. He truly put the "champ" in champion. "Now ain't that something."
Rest in peace until we meet again. In lieu of flowers, please donate in memory of his name to The American Diabetes Association.
