Charles L. Lavender, longtime Fairfield Glade resident, passed away peacefully in the early morning of July 14, 2016.
Born in Sikeston, MO, on July 15, 1933, Charlie grew up in St. Louis where he was a talented pitcher at Central High School. Upon graduation, he was signed by a professional team, the St. Louis Browns, but was drafted into the military and served his country as a radio operator in Greenland. After his honorable discharge, Charlie began his career with General Motors, working his way up from typist to assistant zone manager with Chevrolet in Michigan. In 1992, He retired to Fairfield Glade, TN, where he enjoyed fishing, golfing, bowling and rooting for the St. Louis Cardinals. But Charlie found his greatest joy in his seven grandchildren: Lindsay, Hayley, Dylan, Zac, Shelby, Evan and Morgan
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus and Cora; brother, Ken; and sisters, Anita and Wanda. He is survived by Laura, his loving wife of 63 years; his four children, Steve (Sandy), Karen, Dan and Janet; nieces and nephews, Patrick (Tammy), Linda (Mickey), Tom (Shelly), Rob (Darla), Mike and Dennis; sister in-law, Patricia; many grand nieces and nephews; and a wealth of life-long friends.
A memorial service celebrating Charles life will be held on Aug. 1 at 10 a.m. at Fairfield Glade Community Church, 521 Snead Dr. in Fairfield Glade. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to the church in Charles memory are welcome.
