Charles "Charlie"'s Story
Charles "Charlie" Lindbergh Burrus, 89, went to be with his Lord on June 4, 2017, peacefully at home. Born on Sept. 4, 1927, in Engelhard, NC, Charlie served in the US Navy during World War II, graduated from Elon College and worked for Firestone as a store manager and in regional sales until his retirement in 1982.
Charlie loved Jesus, family, laughter, food and country music. He will always be remembered by friends and family as the sweetest, kindest, most loving and genuine man. He was devoted to various church ministries and civic service organizations throughout his life and was a member of Central Baptist Bearden Church.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 65 years, Fann Burrus; two daughters, Patti Davis and husband Vic, and Cheryl Smith and husband Dewaine; six grandchildren, Amanda Smithgall, Chris Smith, Jay Ellington, Laura Beth Davenport, Cameilla Forrest and Virginia Lawrence; and seven great grandchildren and extended families.
Friends and family may attend the funeral service at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, June 23, 2017, at the Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, 2200 E. Gov. John Sevier Hwy. A Celebration of Life service will be held on June 23 at 3 p.m. followed by receiving of friends from 4 to 6 p.m. at Central Baptist Bearden Church, 6300 Dean Hill Dr., Knoxville, TN.
