Calvin "Cal" Russell Davis Jr., 91, of Fairfield Glade, TN, passed away on Dec. 16, 2016, at the Wharton House in Pleasant Hill.
Cal was born in Cleveland, OH, on July 25, 1925. He graduated from Purdue University in Lafayette, IN, with a degree in mechanical engineering. He served the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean War.
Cal was married to Carol in 1950; they were married 66 years.
He worked as an engineer for Rexnord in Milwaukee, WI, and Jervis Webb Company of Detroit for his entire professional career. He was an avid photographer all of his life, exhibiting his award winning black and white photography at the Photo Guild of Detroit, where he served as president. In addition, he exhibited regularly at the Fairfield Glade Art Guild. His photography is on permanent display at the Art Circle Public Library in Crossville and the Good Samaritan in Fairfield Glade. He had many hobbies in his life, including wine making, bread making, rhododendron cultivation, and maple syrup making. He designed and built his and Carol's first home in Brookfield, WI, and together they designed their home in Fairfield Glade. He was fascinated with all kinds of human experience and craftsmanship. He was also actively involved in the Art Guild of Fairfield Glade and the Art Circle Library.
Cal is survived by wife, Carol; brother, John Davis; son, Russ Davis; and daughters, Susan Davis Oberg and Mary Anne Davis. He also has seven grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
A service will be held Dec. 29, 2016, at 2 p.m. at Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Art Circle Public Library and the Cumberland County Playhouse. The family of Cal Davis wishes to thank the Fairfield Glade Rotary and the fantastic quilters of the QOV for a timely gift of a Quilt of Valor acknowledging his military service. His family is especially grateful to the caregivers at Braun Home of Wharton House at Uplands Village for their generous and loving care at the end of his life.
