Becky Burnett Richards, also known as Sissy to many, passed away Sunday, Dec. 18, 2016, next to her husband, Dennis, of 50 years after an extended illness. Becky was born in Cumberland County, TN, on July 3, 1941, to the late Bethel Burnett and Nelle Young Burnett.
Becky grew up in Crab Orchard, TN, and moved with her family to South Carolina in 1980 where she and her family lived until her retirement from the Darlington County School System. Becky's accomplishments were many as she was a devoted mother, fiercely loyal friend and family member. In 1998, Mrs. Richards received the county-wide school system "Making a Difference Award" for helping several less fortunate children and their families. She was truly a loving and compassionate person. She was a mentor and the matriarch of her family. She was a member of West Hartsville Baptist Church where she was active in the youth ministry and the nursery. She also attended Meridian Baptist Church until her illness.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Dennis Richards II and his wife Charlene of Smyrna, TN; daughter, Bethany Billingsley and husband Byron of Crossville, TN; four grandchildren, Patty Jane Richards and Dennis Edward Richards III both of Smyrna, TN, and Elijah Gray Billingsley and Aubree Eloise Billingsley both of Crossville, TN; three sisters, Gracie Brown, Debbie Netherton and Nina Burnett; sisters- and brothers-in-law; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She also leaves behind her faithful and loyal best friend of 69 years, Karolyn "Pudge" Wright Welty.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father; brother, Larry Bethel Burnett; and two sisters, Janet Thomas and Patricia Stubbs.
The Richards Family would like to extend a very special thanks to Dr. Victor Shada and his staff, Dr Michael Dimeo, the late Dr. David McKinney and the Oncology Department of Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
