Alva Elaine Parsons, 92, passed away in Smyrna, TN, on Nov. 10, 2017. She was born in Cookeville, the third daughter of A.T. (Tom) Parsons and Daisy May Caruthers Parsons. Her mother passed away at age 30 of Nephritis. Her father later married Thelma Ford Parsons and the family moved to Crossville.
Alva worked at Roselon Southern, Y-12 in Oak Ridge during World War II, Marchbanks Drug Store, and as cashier at Tennessee Tech University cafeteria.
She joined Oak Hill Baptist Church, Crossville, on Aug. 4, 1940, and, at the time of her passing, was a member of West Haven Baptist Church in Cookeville.
Survived by her son, Michael Parsons of St. Augustine, FL; niece and caregivers, Dr. Ruth Elaine Benson and husband Phillip McMillen, Smyrna; brothers, Eugene Parsons (Barbara) of Crossville and Thomas Parsons (Norma) of Tampa, FL; nieces and nephews, Rosaletta Allen of New York, Catherine Matsuda (David) of Washington, DC, Kent, Jeff and Paul Parsons, Lori Muir, Karen Groh of Tampa, FL, Hope Parsons, Bonnie Netherton, Carolyn Farris, and Terry Maynard of Crossville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; step-mother; and sisters, Virginia Benson (Johnny) and Ruth Maynard (Austin). Her memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 25, 2017, at 1 p.m. at Bear Creek Baptist Church, 3248 Poston Whiteaker Rd., Cookeville. She will be laid to rest in Oak Hill Baptist Cemetery, Crossville.
Woodfin Funeral Chapel, Smyrna, is in charge of arrangements.
