Jan. 21, 1936 — Jan. 18, 2016 Allan W. Runfeldt, 79, passed away after a brief battle with cancer at his daughter's home in Chattanooga, TN, surrounded by his wife and family. Al was born in Chicago, IL, Jan. 21, 1936. He graduated from Chicago Vocational High School and began his first working career as a Schlitz truck driver. In 1959, he moved to Lowell, IN, where he raised his family. He then began a second career in 1980, owning and operating a used car lot. After retirement, he moved to Fairfield Glade in 2002 where he pursued his love of the game of golf. He was a member of Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church and was a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity and the Cumberland County Playhouse. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Runfeldt. He was a devoted father to his three children: Steve Runfeldt (Lorrie) of Mulberry, FL; Sandy Vandercar (Dave) of Lowell, IN; and Terri Brunvoll (Gary) of Chattanooga, TN. He was a loving grandfather to his nine grandchildren and his three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Leonard, as well as many nieces and nephews. Al was preceded in death by his parents, Nils and Marie Runfeldt, and a brother, Edwin Runfeldt. The family is deeply grateful for all the uplifting prayers and messages during his illness. A memorial service celebrating Al's life will be held at the Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church Feb. 13 at 4 p.m. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church Endowment Fund.
